NOTE: In 1852, the state legislature abolished the position of parish superintendent. For several years in the early 1870s , there were division superintendents. E.S. Stoddard was the Division Superintendent for Jefferson, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, Lafourche and Terrebone Parishes.
