Destrehan High School Fire
On June 1, 1977, a fire destroyed the old high school which was being used for other school and government offices. Arson was suspected in the destruction of the grand old building, which had graced the River Road in Destrehan since 1924. A mural by Louisiana muralist Rodney Lewis depicting the school has been painted on the exterior wall of the old cafeteria. Funds were provided by a grant from the River Region Arts and Humanities Council in association with United Way of St. Charles.
