The Eight Tones Orchestra in the 1950s was formed by Raymond K. Smith, musician, educator, and civic leader. He was aware of the value of music in a person’s life and he promoted the art with his students. He later served as assistant superintendent of schools in St. Charles Parish. The Eight Tones was organized as a rhythm and blues and rock band as students moved into the new Carver High School. Later the band played for Shell dances, on college campuses, and for fraternities at Ole Miss, Tulane, and LSU.
